Old Bridge, NJ – Jan. 29, 2018 – There will be plenty of music emerging from the Old Bridge Public Library the weekend of Feb. 10th.
On Sat. Feb. 10th at 2:30pm, vocalist and trumpeter Gordon James returns to the Library to perform a Mardi Gras celebration with pianist Mark Minchello. As part of the Library’s popular Second Saturday Concert Series, the duo will bring a taste of New Orleans to Old Bridge, with their renditions of traditional favorites from the birthplace of jazz. The concert will feature favorites from New Orleans artists such as Louis Armstrong, Preservation Hall Jazz Band, Fats Domino, Jerry Lee Lewis, Dr. John, and Alan Toussaint. Songs will include: Go to the Mardi Gras, Bourbon Street Parade, Basin Street Blues, Way Down Yonder in New Orleans, Blueberry Hill, Let the Good Times Roll, and When the Saints Go Marchin’ In.
Gordon James is an accomplished performer, composer and recording artist with multiple CDs in the smooth jazz genre. He has performed with noted musicians including Angela Bofill, Chuck Loeb and Bob Baldwin and performs at jazz festivals across the US, including locally at the Red Bank Jazz and Blues Festival, NJPAC Sounds of the City and Liberty State Park Summerfest. On Sun., Feb. 11th from 2-4:30pm, the Library will host another coffeehouse-style open mic event. Aspiring singers, songwriters and spoken word artists are invited to sign up to perform, and the public is encouraged to attend. Refreshments will be served. Registration is required for performers, either in-person at the Library’s Information Desk or by calling 732-721-5600 x5033. Space is limited and material must be suitable for all ages.
The Old Bridge Public Library has consistently been voted one of the three Best Public Libraries in Middlesex County by the readers of the Home News Tribune.
